Questions
Wallpaper can be used on the walls (and ceiling) in any room of your home. It's a design-forward way to infuse visual interest and dimension into your space.
The substrate is the wallpaper backing that adheres to the wall. Think of it as the base layer for the decorative surface on top. Our assortment includes three primary substrate types:
- Non-Woven: A blend of pressed paper fibers and synthetic fibers are bonded together. This substrate is generally durable, breathable, and resistant to tearing.
- Vinyl: A highly durable, contract-grade material that's resistant to moisture and perfect for high-traffic environments.
- Paper: Made from paper pulp, this substrate is lightweight and best suited for low-traffic areas with limited exposure to moisture.
Not necessarily. While vinyl is highly resistant to moisture, a lightweight paper can also perform in a bathroom as long as the space has good ventilation.
We generally advise against using grasscloth or other woven wallcoverings in full bathrooms with limited ventilation, as excess moisture can cause natural fibers to lift or peel. Grasscloth wallpaper can work well in a powder room.
The amount of wallpaper you'll need depends on the square footage of a room's walls, as well as the size of the wallpaper roll, which can vary across brands. Follow our step-by-step wallpaper measuring guide to determine the number of rolls required for your space.
Absolutely! Samples are available for most of our wallpaper patterns. You can order samples directly on the product page under the size drop-down menu.
A pattern repeat is the way a design motif is duplicated and arranged so it continues seamlessly across a surface. In simple terms, it's the distance and method by which a pattern starts over. Knowing the pattern repeat can help you visualize the scale of a wallpaper's design.
For regular maintenance, clean regularly with a vacuum and soft brush attachment (particularly important for textured wallpaper!). Washable wallpaper styles can be gently wiped with a damp cloth. Detailed care instructions specific to each wallpaper are listed on individual product pages.
It's possible to install wallpaper yourself, but our design team recommends working with a professional installer. This takes the guesswork out of the process and ensures your wallpaper is hung with precision.
We recommend hiring a professional to ensure your wallpaper is fully removed and to protect your walls throughout the removal process.

Measuring Guide
Here's a quick guide to help you measure your space and get an estimate of the
amount of wallpaper you'll need. Before ordering, we always recommend verifying the
quantities with your wallpaper installer. They'll be able to take additional nuances of
your space and wallpaper pattern into account when calculating the exact number of
rolls required. If you have additional questions, simply call 1-888-908-3486 or start a
chat at the bottom of this page to connect with a design specialist.
STEP 1: MEASURE THE ROOM
Measure the perimeter of the room, then measure the height of the room
(exclude crown molding and baseboard in your height measurement).
STEP 2: DETERMINE WALL SQUARE
FOOTAGE
Multiply the perimeter measurement by the wall height to determine the
wall square footage.
STEP 3: CONSIDER WINDOWS AND
DOORS
Measure the square footage (width x height) of any doors and windows.
Subtract the square footage of these openings from your wall square
footage (step 2) to calculate your total wallpaper square footage.
STEP 4: CALCULATE THE NUMBER OF
ROLLS NEEDED
Check the product details for your selected wallpaper to find the square
footage per wallpaper roll. Divide your total wallpaper square footage
(step 3) by the square footage per wallpaper roll. The resulting number is
the number of rolls you'll need.
Pro Tip: Round up the total number of rolls by 10-15% to account for
pattern matching and cutting.
